Cinemagic

UX Case Study

In July 2021, I took it upon myself to start creating and expanding my knowledge of UX Design. I enrolled in the free trial of Google’s UX Design course and took note of the crucial steps from start to finish in a UX case study. With the information gained, I created my own case study using the website, sharpen.design.

The Problem and The Goal

The prompt was created for me through sharpen.design:
Design a movie trailer app for a trailer viewing app for a movie theater in Portland

With a quick search, I found a local movie theater in Portland, OR named Cinemagic.

The ultimate goal I had in mind when beginning this process was to design an efficient app that would not only benefit the customers, but also the movie theater in business.

Roles and Responsibilities

This was my first solo case study and first UX case study in general, which allowed me to cover the design process from start to end.

This included:
         Creating User Studies and Personas
         Creating Wireframes
         Conducting Usability Studies and Interviews
Developing Low and High Fidelity Prototypes
         Designing Mockups

Starting the Design

As I was starting to sketch out the design for the wireframes, I had a better vision of what I wanted the interface to look like.
Paper Wireframes
Digital Wireframes
Low-Fidelity Prototypes
Usability Studies
After conducting a usability study with a handful of classmates, I took the feedback into consideration and made changes accordingly.

Going Forward

Takeaway
Impact:

As my first case study, I feel more confident in myself to design and create.

What I learned:

The UX Design process is thorough and requires a lot of attention to detail. I know understand the laborious process that UX Design requires. I soon realized that working on case studies alone is very challenging. For my future projects, I hope to be working with a partner or a team!

Next Steps:

This first project was just the beginning of my UX career! I know I have a long way to go and a lot more to learn.
